My immigration story is like many others. Born on the island of Jamaica, I emigrated to the United States in 1996 with my young daughter in tow. I joined my mother in New York City, her home for the previous decade. As we sat together at the kitchen table filling out my mother's own immigration forms, I began to dream about helping other families.
